Location & Attendance

Last updated: 13 August 2026

This page explains, in plain language, how Maverick Workforce uses your device's location when you clock in or out — what is collected, why, when, and who can see it. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which covers the platform as a whole.

What we collect

When you use Clock In or Clock Out, Maverick Workforce may access your device's location to check whether you're at your assigned work site. Depending on whether a reading is available, this can include:

  • your location at the moment of that clock-in action;
  • the accuracy of that reading (how precise your device says it is);
  • the timestamp of the action;
  • your assigned site and its configured geofence radius;
  • the result of comparing the two — whether you appear to be within or outside the site's geofence, and the distance if outside.

If location can't be obtained — permission declined, location services off, poor signal, or an unsupported device — clocking in still works exactly the same way; nothing is recorded except that a reading wasn't available.

While you're clocked in, and only while the Maverick Workforce app or tab is open and in front of you, we also check periodically that you still appear to be at the site — see "When location is accessed" below for exactly what that does and doesn't mean. Only a reading showing you outside the site, and the reading that confirms you've returned, are ever kept; a normal "still on site, nothing happening" check is evaluated and discarded, never stored.

Why we collect it

Location is used to:

  • verify that a clock-in/out happened at, or sufficiently close to, the assigned work site;
  • help keep accurate working-time records;
  • identify genuine attendance exceptions for a manager to look at;
  • help resolve a real clock-in/out dispute, where one arises.

We do not use this information to score productivity, monitor your movement during a shift, build a profile of you, measure your breaks, or for any general surveillance purpose. See our Privacy Policy for the platform's wider data-collection scope.

When location is accessed

Maverick Workforce does not continuously track your location, and never runs anything in the background before your shift starts or after you clock out. Location is requested at the moment you Clock In, and — while you're clocked in — periodically again, but only under all of the following conditions at once:

  • you have an open, active clock-in session (never before Clock In, never after Clock Out);
  • the Maverick Workforce app or browser tab is open and actually in front of you — the moment you switch away, lock your phone, or close it, this stops immediately;
  • it exists for exactly one purpose: confirming you're still at the work site, never to build a picture of where else you go.

This does not, and cannot, continue while your phone is locked or the app is in the background — that is a deliberate limit, not a gap: Maverick Workforce does not use, and has explicitly chosen not to request, the kind of background-location access that would allow it. If you close the app or lock your phone while clocked in, checking simply pauses until you reopen it, or until your manager reviews your shift.

Who can access it

Whether your clock-in appears to be within or outside the site geofence is visible to managers who are authorised to view attendance for your site — the same people who can already see your shift and attendance record, nothing wider. The exact GPS coordinates behind that result are more sensitive and are restricted separately, to a narrower set of senior roles (Managing Director, Operations Director, and Operations Manager) who hold a specific additional permission for it. You can always see your own attendance information.

Automatic clock-out if you leave the site

If you're clocked in and the periodic checks above confirm — with several consistent, good-quality readings, never a single flaky one — that you've genuinely left the site, you'll first see an on-screen warning. If you don't return within a short grace period, Maverick Workforce closes your attendance session automatically and tells you it's done so, including the exact time. This is the one deliberate exception to "a location reading never has an automatic consequence," described honestly rather than left unsaid: it only ever closes a session that's already open, it's always visible to you and your manager as "automatic — left site," and you can report it from your dashboard if you believe it was wrong — a manager reviews every report, and the original record is never overwritten, only corrected on top of.

Every other use of location is never used to penalise you automatically

Outside of the one exception above, a location reading that can't be captured, or disagrees with the site, never marks you absent, late, or rejects your shift on its own. It only ever creates something a manager can review — the decision, if any is needed, is always a human one.

Retention and your rights

The verification result (within/outside geofence, distance, accuracy) is kept for as long as the attendance record itself is needed, for the same payroll, employment and dispute-handling reasons as the rest of your attendance history. Exact coordinates, being more sensitive, are considered for a shorter retention period — see our Privacy Policy's dedicated location section for the current position. Your data-protection rights (access, correction, erasure, objection, and others) apply to this information the same as any other personal data we hold — see the Privacy Policy for how to exercise them.

Questions

If you have a question or concern about how location is used for attendance, contact your manager or organisation first, or write to us at maverickprovidence@gmail.com.
